About the Strain
It only seems like yesterday when the Gelato strain was conceived and crossed in 2014 by Mario Guzman (Mr. Sherbinski) and Jai Chang (Jigga); two brilliant and prominent breeders from California. This Thin Mint Cookies X Sunset Sherbet really took the aromas and tastes of its parents to a new level. Occasionally you can come across a strain that has had too many parents and doesn’t live up to all the hype, however in the case of Gelato it’s the complete opposite! If you can imagine what it’s like burning ice cream, then you are on the track to understanding how unique this strain really is. The nose pops with the fragrance of fresh dough and wild berries and follows up with similar notes of blackberries and woody burnt orange which represent the tang one the exhale and blueberry dough on the inhale for a complete and balanced dessert experience.
The Scientific Terpene Profile of Gelato
Above we noted a true smokers experience, however, when looking closer from a scientific perspective we discover the building blocks of Gelato’s terpene composition. This enables us to unearth which terpenes taste like the common flavours we smell and taste every day when we buy marijuana shatter and flower. The fragrance profile of Gelato is primarily represented by Beta-Caryophyllene which represents the baking aromas that are the most abundant in this plant and clearly define the strong base fragrance of this strain. Limonene comes as a secondary terpene which together, with Myrcene characterize the tangy berry and citrus flavours and smells. Humulene which closely resembles hops is the last terpene to be represented due to its unobtrusive aroma when compared to the prominent fragrances of the previous 3 terpenes, wrapping up the very unique Gelato from California.
Our Extraction Protocols
This Gelato Shatter has been crafted using Club Canna’s extraction methods which are extremely extensive; however, the results produce results that are unlike anything else in Canada. First, Club Canna uses a proprietary blend of solvents to extract terpenes and flavonoids at low temperatures as not degrade the quality of these essential compounds. Temperatures manifested too high can result in the loss of the integrity of the finished result. After one or two passes of a single strain extraction, the flavonoids and terpenes that were previously rendered are added back in. This makes for an entourage effect that reflects the high a person would experience when smoking this strain in its flower form. As a matter of fact, Gelato contains quite an abundance of CBG, which Club Canna is able to preserve where most labs use synthetic terpenes to flavour concentrates making for a product that never inherits any of the unique qualities of its mother plant.
Type of High
This Indica dominant shatter doesn’t stand out with typical effects. Despite its crushing head high, buying these dabs and smoking them leaves you feeling energetic and relaxed where normally this high would overwhelm a seasoned smoker and manifest into complete zone out. It is a surprisingly balanced strain that even when concentrated its high still resembles its flower counterpart due to its high CBG content. Its most common medical applications aid patients with chronic pain, fatigue, headaches, pain, nausea and muscle spasms.
